Another of the planet's natural jewels, the Amazon rain-
forest, has been suffering indiscriminate logging for dec-
ades, and in recent years we directly see it burning. The
fires can be seen from space and are set to clear land for
agriculture or livestock. 10% of all animal species on the
planet live there.
This is Greenpeace's list of some of the most iconic animals
in danger of extinction
1. Mountain gorilla
2. Polar bear
3. Iberian lynx
4. Sumatran tiger
5. White rhino
6. Snow leopard
7. Panda bear
8. Common chimpanzee
9. Pangolin
10. Bornean orangutan
11. Axolotl
12. Bluefin tuna
At this point we all know that our productive system is not
sustainable at all. The vast majority of companies produc-
ing palm oil, soy, paper, wood or meat, devour the planet's
resources without a sustainable plan B. They are the main
responsible, but we all are as well, as consumers. Change is
in our hands and there are small gestures that mean a lot,
such as choosing the brand of biscuits, coffee or chocolate
that we buy, recycling as much as possible or opting for less
polluting means of transport. There is a choice available

This list also highlights a native mammal, the Iberian lynx.
It has been on the brink of extinction for decades but
thanks to the efforts made in the last 20 years, this lynx
has multiplied by nine the number of specimens that live
between Spain and Portugal, managing to advance on the
list as “threatened”. As always, the danger lies in the de-
struction and fragmentation of their habitats, which has
affected their mobility and their ability to feed. Another
important factor in the case of lynxes is the high rate of hit-
and runs.
Let’s now take the case of Indonesia as an example. Despite
being aware of the damage that is being caused, they contin-
ue to transform large masses of jungle into plantations, de-
stroying the home of emblematic species such as the tiger,
the elephant, the Sumatran rhinoceros or the orangutan.
In recent years, Indonesia has been one of the countries that
has destroyed the largest forest area. This uncontrolled de-
forestation leads to a great loss of biodiversity and forces

wild animals, such as the tiger, to move to populated areas
seeking their own survival, but end up being killed or being
the object of poachers instead.
